According to the latest statistics*, the EV (Electric Vehicle) market is booming and shows no signs of slowing down.

In 2020, electric passenger car sales increased by 186% and today there are an estimated 400,000 electric cars on the road and more than 750,000 plug-in hybrids. The market is just as buoyant with light commercial vehicles.

At the end of 2021, new light commercial vehicle registrations were up by 21.4%, with 63,000 more vehicles registered than in 2020**.

As statistics show, consumers are becoming more eco-friendly and are happy to invest in an electric or hybrid vehicle. Businesses are also thinking ahead and are putting plans in place to replace their current vehicles with electric models.

“As more and more companies add electric vehicles to their fleets and eventually replace them completely, there will be an increase in demand to hire electric commercial vehicles. You’ll be pleased to hear that we’re already putting the wheels in motion, we are engaging with our suppliers to ensure we can cope with the demand,” said Helen Davey at City Transport Solutions.

Aside from the early adopters who have already switched to an electric vehicle, many people feel as though they have no choice but to invest in alternatives, thanks to the ongoing fuel crisis, daily rising costs and the impact that’s having on a global scale.

“We also need to take into consideration that by 2030 there will be a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles. Now isn’t the time to procrastinate, but to be future focussed and have a plan in place,” said Helen.

“A few of our clients have said that they’re waiting for battery sizes to increase so that drivers can do more miles, but we’re urging our other clients to think about their needs so that we can continue to help them with their short-term or long-term vehicle hire needs. As with anything, this could quickly accelerate and we want to be ready for that,” added Helen.

The team at City Transport Solutions has already started to see an increase in requests for electric vehicles and will support their customers and clients as much as they can throughout the transition period and beyond.
